About Us and our POTF Blog (w/video)
Here please find thoughtful and informative writing, videos and photographs from a family who uses their inner connection with the Divine to strive to live now as all will live in the future. Our daily outer work currently includes homesteading with rare breed animals, homeschooling with a vision, self-reliant straw bale construction, preparing whole and cultured foods, and staying healthy with herbs and other natural approaches to health. Our daily inner work includes meditation, character building, ennobling family life through simplicity and harmony, and seeking out the essential natural and spiritual laws laid down in the past that will guide us safely toward the future.
We are two inspired parents and six lively children living together with four noble Dutch Belted cows, four spunky Nigerian Dwarf goats, one boyish donkey, an array of contented laying hens, two handsome cats and one evolved border collie. We are very pleased to find our home in spectacular Floyd County, in the beautiful mountains of southwest Virginia.
Here is a short video about our first book release.
If you would like to support the Pockets of the Future Project, prayers, encouragement and donations are always welcome.

Hi there, I looked around your blog to see if there was an update to the Simply Music review you’d done in January. I’d love to know how it is working out long term and if any of your younger kids are using it. Thanks so much! You’ve got a VERY interesting blog and I want to come back and READ it, not just “peruse”!
blessings,
Dear Carrie,
I was actually trying to get geared up to start Simply Music with our ten year old but so many other new things suddenly happened that I didn’t get a chance. Hopefully this winter we will get him going and I will definitely post about his progress.
Thank you very much for writing and for reminding me!
With warm regards,
Leslie
Hello,
My wife and I are currently looking for property (with house) in SW VA, including Floyd County. If you know anyone who has a great place on the market please email me. We’re looking to get in at around $125k with a livable house and at least ten acres.
Great blog. Glad I found it!

Hi guys-
Love the site, love the vids… Well done! Your livestock and your family look healthy, happy and strong. One day, my wife and I and our five kids hope to get a quarter section (160 acres) up in Eastern Washington and get power production going with micro hydro, wind, solar and methane and go green with our food production. Not for any altruistic environmentalist reasons but because at one point I became shockingly aware of the fact that all facets of my ability to live were outside my direct control. Food, water, power, heat: all those life sustaining things could be taken away if our infrastructure failed for any reason. Why not take the reigns and seek out a better way of life… So many great lesson for the kids to learn. So many simple joys rediscovered as a family. Anyway, again: well done!
God’s love upon you-
Sean
